The GTG – the best part of watch collecting?

People collect watches for many reasons. I have been doing it for over 30 years now. Over that time, the reasons for my collecting “habit” have evolved. I started off as a JLC collector. Then I met a guy called Blomman and I realised that “collecting” means different things to different people!!!

I evolved into Rolex about 20 years ago, starting with a GMT-Master II. Then I went into the rabbit hole – vintage Rolex. That occupied me for a few years. It was also in this phase that I started to attend the occasional GTG. The Get-To-Gether.

At first, I thought it was a bit weird. A group of 10-20 guys meeting up and covering a table with literally a 100-200 watches. It was bizarre. My wife thought I had become a member of some cult society.

But, over the years, the GTG grew on me and introduced to me the very best aspect of watch collecting. Namely, meeting other people who share this weird habit. No….just kidding. Over time, one gets to meet people who become true friends. For me, it has become the best part of watch collecting.

Thoughts?
